Tao Tie 1. 1982. Aluminium foil and diffraction foil on plywood. 150 cms tall
Based on the Chinese ceramic form of opposing dragon faces, the surfaces are made out of aluminium foil manually typed with "1's" and "0's" in a cryptic binary code. Arranged diagonally across each of the 4800 individual tiles is a narrow strip of diffraction foil casting constellations of coloured spangles across the surface. An early attempt at a hologrammatic representation of a computer chip.
