The installation you can see is a model for an idea I am working on within my '00 Scale' series. These follow the tradition of the orrery as in the old mechanical models of the Solar System. Except here they are electric. The concept in this work follows my recent researches into the role of mitochondria cells in metabolic processes. These cells are archaic and can be loosely described as the ‘batteries’ of the organism.
Mitochondrial health is essential for all living organisms and many metabolic problems can be traced to the dysfunction of these cells. What is becoming increasingly recognised is the role of red and infrared light in the promotion of mitochondrial health*. Central to the provision of this wavelength is the Sun. The retina is the most intensive user and the most affected by any deficiency.
What has been intriguing has been how closely the role of infrared photons appears in many physical phenomena. Under the theory of Particulate Aether. These photons play a critical role in nearly everything from the underpinning of the electro-magnetic field, planetary orbits and how aircraft stay aloft. It is no surprise that they perform such an important role in life processes.
In this ‘00 scale’ installations I am exploring the tradition of the ‘xx-punk’ – i.e.Steam-punk, cyber-punk, etc.. In this instance it could be called mito-punk.
